Notes

The Steel/Cotton Rail Trail is a 62.8 mile station to station walking route connecting Sheffield and Manchester through the Peak District. The route is divided into sections. This is section 2, Dore & Totley station to Grindleford, returning to Dore by train. Read more about this leg of the trail here

The meeting point for the start of the walk is outside the Rajdhani Indian restaurant at 10am.

Terrain

The terrain is challenging – a fairly steep uphill section to Totley Moss and a very steep, rocky path down through Longshaw to Grindleford station.

There will be a coffee stop and we’re planning to stop for lunch just as we arrive at Longshaw. Please bring a packed lunch. There are no toilet facilities en route.

The Train Journey
We suggest buying train tickets for the return journey from Grindleford to Dore and Totley in advance – there is a ticket machine at Grindleford but it’s on the opposite platform to the one we’ll be using and if lots of people need to buy tickets there then it could take a while!

The trains from Grindleford to Dore and Totley station are hourly, departing at 9 minutes to the hour. The journey time is 5 minutes.
