Where do you go walking?
Our walks are in and around the Dronfield area. Some of our favourite locations are the Moss Valley, Holmesfield and Unstone. Recently we have introduced walks that are a little further afield such as Longshaw, Totley, Shillito Woods and Bakewell.
How long are your walks?
Our daytime walks are between 5 and 7 miles and our summertime evening walks are between 3 and 5 miles depending on available daylight.
What time do your walks start?
Our daytime walks (Saturdays and Tuesdays) start at 10:00 am unless there is a specific reason to start earlier or later. For a 5 mile walk we typically finish around 1:00 pm. Our evening walks (Thursdays) start at 7:00 pm and finish around 9:00 pm.
How difficult are your walks?
Most of our walks have some ups and downs but are not particularly demanding for someone with good fitness. If a walk is particularly strenuous it will be noted in the walk description. We are not a fast-paced group, and the walk leader will ensure that there are sufficient breaks to rest and take a drink.
Do I need to sign up for a walk?
No, there is no need to let us know you will be coming on a walk, just turn up at the start point at least 5 minutes before the published start time.
How do I join your group?
Just complete a membership form and hand it to the walk leader. You can download a copy of the membership form from the “Join Us” section of this website.
Do I need to be a member of your group to come on a walk with you?
No, feel free to join us on a couple of walks before you decide if you would like to join the group. After that we would expect you to pay your membership fee.
Are dogs allowed on your walks?
Yes, dogs under close control are welcome. If dogs are not allowed on a specific walk e.g dawn chorus walk, it will be noted in the walk description.
Should I bring a packed lunch?
The majority of our walks are between 4 and 6 miles which means that we usually finish around 1 pm, so most people just bring tea or coffee and perhaps a light snack to enjoy during a mid-morning break. If the walk starts and finishes near a pub, we sometimes take the opportunity to have a meal there.
How do I get to the start of a walk?
Most of our members drive to the start point. However, many of our walks have meeting points that are only a short walk from the centre of Dronfield.
We also encourage car sharing and some of our members are willing to offer lifts to anyone who doesn’t have their own transport. If you email admin@dronfieldfootpaths.org.uk we will do our best to put you in touch with someone.
If your question is not covered here, please email admin@dronfieldfootpaths.org.uk and we will do our best to help.
