Ten walkers gathered outside the Family Shopper on Barnes Lane in readiness for Julie and Nicola’s six mile walk. The weather forecast predicted that we might get showers or even thunderstorms but neither of these materialised.
The first golf course was Dore and Totley which we navigated via a sheltered path running down the side of the course. After crossing Bradway road we took the footpath next to the former Bradway hotel (now a Sainsbury’s) which brought us on to Twentywell Lane. At the bottom of the Lane we entered Ladies Spring Wood and made our way up the steep steps to the field boundary with excellent views of Beauchief Hall and the herd of dear that graze in the field. This was also our lunch/coffee stop.
Following quiet lanes and woodland paths we emerged alongside Moorview Golf Centre which led us back to Dore and Totley Golf Course. This time we followed a more open route through the course keeping to the public footpath marked by white posts.
The last section of the walk was very familiar to the group because it is the section of the Dronfield Barn Round Walk that we look after, running from Bowshaw through to Barnes Lane.
We all agreed that this had been a marvellous walk taking us along lovely footpaths hidden in urban areas. Many thanks to Nicola and Julie for leading us.
