Limb Valley and The Porter Brook (10th February 2025)

Twenty-six walkers and one dog met in the car park behind Whirlow Brook Hall. This was a fantastic turnout considering the dank conditions. Phil talked to us about the hall and pointed out some of the hazards we might come across on the walk.

We set off down the main driveway all the way to the crescent at the bottom. From here we entered Whinfell Quarry Gardena small garden created within a derelict flagstone quarry. After following the track known as Coit Lane, we passed Whirlow Hall Farm, and crossed Ringinglow Road, eventually reaching our coffee stop at Forge Dam. This is a lovely spot to enjoy your own snacks or to pop into the café to sample their cakes.

We continued on, following the Porter Brook, taking a left turn just before Porter Clough to take us to the Norfolk Arms on Ringinglow Road. The last section of the walk took us through the splendid Limb Valley, arriving back at the car park almost by surprise.

Many thanks to Phil for leading us on a very enjoyable walk.
