Unstone Green and Grasscroft Wood (24th January 2026)

Nineteen walkers met on Carlisle Close on a chilly but fine morning. After doing a recce, our walk leader Dave, found that some of the footpaths on his intended walk were very slippery so he opted to go for a completely different walk that encircled the new Peak Resort site instead.

We started out on one of the new footpaths installed for the new Peak Resort project, following the river Drone all the way to what was the main entrance to the former Birch Hall golf course. We then took the well made path that ascended up towards Ouzel Bank Cottage but veered off take a more direct route to Bull Close farm. The path from here took us into Monk Wood, picking up a footpath that followed the line of the Dronfield By-Pass. When we were half way along this path we stopped for a coffee break.

We were now only a mile from the start of our walk which we finished by taking the Sheepbridge entrance to the resort and crossing over the road to meet Sheffield Road.

Many thanks to Dave for leading us on the walk and for his re-planning to avoid any mishapps.
