On a grey autumnal morning, ten of our members met in the lay-by on Far Lane. The forecast was for rain after lunch so we had our fingers crossed that it wouldn’t arrive early.
An enclosed path across fields took us to our first highlight of the day, Barlow Woodseats Hall. This lovely old building has a restaurant and is also a wedding venue. Find out more about the hall’s history by clicking this link. On the next stage of the walk we passed through a collection of woods, Rose Wood, Stripes Wood and Meekfield Wood. We were now heading back towards Far Lane, passing by Moorhall Farm on our way. We soon reached the next highlight of the walk, Barlow Grange, a grade two listed building.
For the middle section of the walk we crossed fields towards an area known as Oxton Rakes, eventually emerging onto Grange Lane. The final section of the walk was along quiet roads with a slight sting in the tail as we ascended steeply to rejoin Far Lane where the cars were parked.
Many thanks to Joe for devising the walk and to Graham for leading us round.
