Twenty one walkers and one dog met in the Grouse Inn’s car park ready for my walk. The sun was shining and the visibility was good, T shirt weather you might think. No, there was a biting north easterly wind that chilled you to the very core.
Undeterred we set off along White Edge, admiring the companion stone near the start of the edge. As we approached our normal coffee stop time we found a nice dip in the ground that sheltered us from the wind to enjoy a short break. After half an hour or so we turned right down the steps and across a brook towards Curbar Gap. We passed the picnic area but were not tempted to stop as we knew other places with even better views were coming up.
We made our way along Curbar Edge and then Froggatt Edge before stopping for our second coffee break amongst the rocks and with great views. We passed another point of interest, the Bronze Age stone circle, on our way but we were now almost back at the Grouse. Finally we crossed the main road on a nasty bend and crossed the stream into Haywood car park where some of our group were parked. The rest of us continued through the fields to the Grouse where some enjoyed a refreshing drink.
Thanks for joining me on what some people said was the best walk they had ever been on (well I think I heard that but it was hard to tell with the wind blowing in my ear)
