Fifteen walkers and one dog met in the car park on a bright morning that threatened showers.
Coombs Dale is an area that our group haven’t walked in very often so we were delighted to try out new paths and experience fantastic views along the way. Whilst walking round, our leader Martin, told us about Black Harry, a notorious 18th-century highwayman who targeted wealthy travellers and merchants, often robbing them of gold guineas. His legend is recognised in the area by the naming of Black Harry Lane and Black Harry Gate, near Coombs Dale and Longstone Edge.
Martin and Helen also made sure none of us went hungry by supplying us with an endless supply of Jafa cakes and in my case a very nice cheese butty.
We managed to avoid the predicted rain apart from one brief shower which inconveniently fell during our lunch stop. Many thanks to Martin and Helen for showing us this lovely region.
