Grasscroft Wood and West Handley (4th April 2026)

Fifteen walkers and three dogs met on Carlisle Close for Clive and Judy’s annual easter walk. The weather was set fair although it was a little chilly as we set off over the fields to St Bartholomew’s church in Old Whittington. Having walked along the narrow pathways next to the church we tackled our biggest climb of the day up to Grasscroft Wood. At the top of the hill, with excellent views over Chesterfield, I am pleased to say that Judy had brought along chocolate easter bunnies for everyone to have with their coffee.

Continuing over the fields we reached Long Lane and did a loop round West Handley. Our route back was via Hundall, passing the Miners Arms. In the past we have seen the Tractor Run which starts at Troway Hall Farm, but on this occasion we were a little too early.

The last part of the walk took us through Ramshaw Wood to Unstone Green where we followed the relatively new riverside path all the way back to our start point.

Many thanks to Clive and Judy for leading us round this very enjoyable walk.
