The Sheffield and Tinsley Canal (31st March 2026)

Twenty one members of our group met by the steel salmon sculpture outside Sheffield railway station ready for Richard and Phoebe’s walk. We had a slightly later start in order to accommodate anyone travelling to the start by bus. Read more about the sculpture which celebrates salmon’s return to River Don, by clicking this link

Phoebe briefed us about the walk and the change in route owing to a landslip that had closed part of the canal. This meant that our route started on the Five Weirs Walk and joined up with the canal after the point where it was blocked. The walk was a resounding success with a mixture of green corridors and areas of industrial interest. One of the many highlights along the way was the looping canal boat on the canal. You can read more about it here.

Our walk finished at Meadowhall with walkers taking advantage of trams, buses and trains to get back to Dronfield. Many thanks to Richard for leading us and to Phoebe for her interesting notes along the way.
