Linear Walk to Graves Park (2nd December 2025)

It’s hard to predict the popularity of linear walks that use public transport for one of their legs so twenty two walkers and one dog was an excellent turnout for Richard and Phoebe’s walk.

We started out on Half Acre Lane and took the path leading to the roundabout at the end of Callywhite Lane. Where the road bends we took the path through Frith Wood, emerging out of the wood on Frithwood Road (sorry Firthwood Road 🙂 ). After a short stint on Eckington Road we followed Owler Car Lane as far as the entrance to Owler Car Wood. Just after the steep decent at the start of the wood we stopped for a drinks break.

Feeling refreshed, we continued on to cross a footbridge and leave the wood by one of the exists that can be used on the Dronfield Round Walk. We were then in open fields for a short time before passing through Nor Wood and Long Wood on the way to Hazelbarrow farm. Within ten minutes we arrived at the most challenging part of the walk, crossing the A61 dual carriageway. As it happens there were plenty of gaps in the traffic and we all crossed without difficulty.

There was now an advance party who had their eyes firmly fixed on the coffee and cake at St James’ church Norton. As always , we were well looked after by the volunteers at the church who had baked a huge array of cakes. We all spent a very pleasant half hour in the church before we made our way through Graves park to the bus stop on the main road.

Many thanks to Richard and Phoebe for leading us round on this very enjoyable walk.
