Eleven walkers and two dogs gathered in the Broombank Park car park all ready for Richard’s Five Ponds walk.
Our first pond, located close to Broombank Park, is used by Severn Trent for water treatment. Here, reed beds filter contaminants from former coal mines. From here we followed a track through the trading estate, roughly following the Barlow Brook to our second set of ponds at a fishing club in the heart of the Sheepbridge Industrial estate. We did a circuit of the ponds trying our best not to disrupt the anglers.
We returned back to the main track and continued through Cobnar Wood, which you will notice from our pictures, is for sale. After passing through the woods we caught a glimpse of our third pond which is obscured by trees. Our fourth set of ponds were at Barlow Country Club where we stopped for snacks and drinks.
Feeling suitably refreshed we set off in search of our fifth pond. Our route took us into Monk Wood and over the curly bridge then following a track running parallel to the Dronfield By-pass. The fifth pond is the smallest, lying close to the Peak Resort Gateway.
Many thanks to Richard for leading us on this enjoyable walk and to Graham for taking the photos
