Here is Graham’s report on Chris and Barry’s walk.
Todays walk saw five members join our leaders Barry and Chris at Redmires Plantation Car Park for a walk they had previously done about a year ago. Many of the members on this previous walk said that it had been the best walk they had done whilst walking with the society. However it was somewhat different this time as we were in the grips of storm Amy.
From the relative shelter of the trees at the car park Barry and Chris made the decision to walk along the Redmires Conduit as far as the ford at Rivelin Brook, with the hope that we could still get across after Friday’s torrential rain. We set out back along Redmires Road/Long Causeway and the first part of the Conduit with a tail wind behind us. However as we made our way alongside the moor this soon became a fierce side wind and the rain was now horizontal but we ploughed on for a while. Soon we were struggling to keep our feet and it was then a unananimous decion, as the wind was now almost gale force, that we turn back and call it a day.
We made our way back to the car park where we all thanked Barry and Chris for turning out and were willing to give it a go.
We don’t have to cancel or abandon many of our walks, but on this occasion we were beaten by Storm Amy.
Don’t be fooled by the featured image, it’s from last year!
