Due to the high temperatures during the day, our leader Graham decided to do a slightly shorter route than intended for tonight’s walk. Eleven walkers set off from the bottom car park at Coal Aston Village Hall on a 3 1/2 mile stroll around the Moss Valley.
There was a welcome breeze as we crossed the first of the fields as we headed for Hazlebarrow Farm. Passing through Nor Wood and Long Wood we had the first of 3 water stops at the top of a short climb. It was then onto the farm where Graham gave a short history of Hazlebarrow Hall, a once notable residence on the Hazlebarrow estate. Sadly it was demolished in 1810, reputedly after a fire. We then continued down to Newfield Spring Wood and then through Bridle Road Wood to Dowey Lumb where the bank was covered in Betony flowers. It was then up through Cook Spring Wood and Whinacre Wood on our way back to Coal Aston.
A lovely evening walk, leisurely paced, with some nice coolness in the woodland areas. Many thanks to Graham for leading this glorious walk.
