As we drove to our start location the driving rain we came across as we approached Owler Bar didn’t fill us with confidence but the forecast was for the weather to improve before lunch and remain dry for most of the afternoon. As the twelve of us gathered at the start point on The Dale the rain stopped and we started to feel much more optimistic.
Our walk leaders for the day David and Vanessa described the walk as an exploration of all the nooks and crannies in and around Hathersage without ever straying too far from the centre of the village. Our first port of call was Little John’s grave at the church. We paused a while to view the grave and explore the church. We continued across fields passing Brookside Manor Training Centre before turning back on ourselves down a quiet country lane. The walk continued with great views all around dropping back down to the main road which we crossed by the bridge.
On our way back to the start point we walked through quiet roads and back alleys in the centre of Hathersage taking us past the lido and bowling green.
We all agreed that it had been a lovely walk taking in tracks that many of us had not explored before. Thanks to David and Vanessa for leading us round.
