The number of walkers taking part in our walks has averaged 15 to 20 during the winter months but on this occasion 36 people met in the Coal Aston Village Hall lower car park! This is the joint highest attendance that I have known in recent years. It was lovely to see a few new faces who had seen the walk advertised in the Active8 magazine. This is a sister publication of Dronfield Eye distributed to the S8 district of Sheffield.
The walk leaders, Hillary and Anne, had made some adjustments to the walk to avoid the notorious mud found in the Moss Valley. We set off following Eckington Road and Owler Car Lane to a track on the right just before reaching Povey Farm. This took us through Ryall’s wood and then on to Geer Lane. When we reached Birley Hay we stopped for a coffee break on the bridge.
At this point we started our journey home, taking a track across fields that joined up with the main road through Troway. Just after passing Trowayhall Farm, we took the Sheffield Country Walk through the woods which is also part of the Dronfield Round walk. The last leg of the walk followed Sicklebrook Lane and Eckington Road back to the village hall.
Many thanks to Hillary and Anne for managing such a large group. It was a very enjoyable walk in lovely weather.
