Longshaw and Burbage Moors (11th March 2025)

Seventeen walkers met in the Wooden Pole car park at Longshaw on a bright but chilly morning.

We set off across the moors to White Edge Lodge and continued on to cross the A625. With excellent view all around we walked through Lawrence field and Owler Tor to an amazing eroded boulder known as Mother Cap. With lovely views and a great selection of stones to rest on this was the ideal spot for our lunch break

Feeling refreshed, we carried on to Over Owler Tor and Winyards Nick where we changed direction to pick up the track close to Millstone Edge.

After crossing the A6187 just below Surprise View we picked up a track littered with old mill stones and passed through a splendid silver birch wood. This took us to Padley Gorge which we followed back to the Longshaw estate. As we approached to lodge some of the group took the opportunity to visit the cafe wheres others took a slightly more direct route back to the Wooden Pole.

Many thanks to Andrew for leading us on this lovely walk with a great mixture of moorland and woodland scenery.
