Twenty two walkers and one dog gathered in the long lay-by on a bright December morning. After our leader, Richard, had given us an overview of the walk we set off down Half Acre Lane heading for Frith Wood. I’m coming round to calling it Frith Wood rather than Firth Wood.
After passing through the wood we emerged onto Firthwood Road (no comments necessary) and crossed over Eckington Road, following Owler Car Lane all the way to the entrance to Owler Car Wood. After crossing over the river Moss we made our way to Nor Wood and then Long Wood. Continuing on through fields we reached Hazelbarrow farm and then followed the Lane to eventually meet Bochum Parkway. Although busy, we were able to cross without difficulty.
As the prospect of tea and cakes at St James’ church loomed large, the pace quickened. And we weren’t disappointed. The volunteers at the church offered a fantastic selection of home baked products.
After our break the walk carried on through Graves park to the end of Charles Ashmore Road where we caught buses back to Dronfield.
Many thanks to Richard and Phoebe for leading this lovely walk and for arranging the stop at St James’
