Charnock Woods and Ridgeway Moor (28th September 2024)

Fifteen walkers met in the recreation ground’s car park on a lovely bright autumn morning. Two people were new to the group which was very pleasing to see.

In the first half of the walk we passed through three woods, Stonely Wood, Carterhall Wood and Ryall’s Wood. After this we changed direction, heading eastwards towards Ridgeway Moor and then on to Plumbley. After continuing through a couple more fields we stopped for our mid-morning break. What a spot it was, with lovely views all round.

We were now heading back towards Charnock, skirting Owlthorpe and crossing back over the main road through Ridgeway. The remainder of the walk was mainly through open fields and almost without realising we were back at the recreation ground.

Many thanks to Vanessa and David for leading us on this walk which was new territory for many of us.
