Today’s walk, led by Nicola and Julie, was based on a walk from “On Your Dorestep”, a publication created by the Dore Village Society. The circular walk is the combination of two routes from Dore to Dronfield that were probably used to take the dead for burial before Dore had its own churchyard.
Twenty five of our members gathered outside the Barnes Lane shops in glorious early autumn weather. Julie gave an overview of the route and mentioned a steep climb on the return leg. The first section of the walk took us through Dore and Totley Golf Course. Although the golfers were concentrating on their game some of them gave us a friendly nod and even a brief chat as we crossed fairways. After a drinks stop near the clubhouse we continued down Twentywell Lane, crossed Abbeydale Road and continued on to the outskirts of Dore via Water Lane. Soon we arrived at the village green where we stopped for our lunch break. Nicola handed out chocolates which were most welcome.
The return leg to Dronfield was more direct, taking us on Bushey Wood Road and then Prospect Road. This was the steep climb that Julie had mentioned but after a brief stop to gather our breath we carried on to Tinker’s corner. The last section of the walk was along Barnes Lane, a section of the Dronfield Barn Rotary Walk.
Thanks very much to Julie and Nicola for leading the walk which had a good mixture of green and urban areas.
