Around Hardwick (Saturday 24th August)

Twenty two walkers and one four legged friend gathered by the ponds in Hardwick Park in readiness for a 5 mile walk in the Park and its surrounding area.

The forecast was for sunshine and showers and that’s pretty much how it turned out. Many of us hadn’t walked some of the footpaths in this area so we were very impressed by the route that Richard and Phoebe had picked out for us.

When we arrived at Stainsby Mill, Phoebe gave us a talk on some of the Mill’s history and how the 6th Duke of Devonshire reconstructed the mill in order to make white flour.

At the end of the walk some of us indulged in tea and scones at the cabin by the ponds.

Many thanks to Richard for leading the walk and to Phoebe for telling us interesting facts along the way.
