Twelve walkers and one dog met in the long lay-by between Dronfield and Unstone in readiness for Jane’s walk. The weather was dull and the forecast unpromising but undetered we set off following the Dronfield Round Walk up to Ouzle Bank. On the way there, several of us commented on the lack of poppies in the fields compared to other years. There was much debate on the subject but we are still a little puzzled.
When we reached Ouzle bank we could see that the cows were grazing on our intended track in the field ahead. To avoid any problems we crossed the field a little higher up.
We then followed the made path down to the entrance to the old club house off the main road. This was a good spot for us to have a drink before crossing the road and following the river Drone towards the Unstone viaduct. We always gaze in amazement at this wonderful structure.
The remainder of the route took us across Crow Lane, along the Lower Boardwalk and down Half Acre Lane
Many thanks to Jane for leading us round.
