Unthank, Moorhall and Rumbling Street (2nd July 2024)

Steve and Ross led Tuesday’s walk from Millthorpe. Here’s what Steve had to say about the walk.

We had 19 on the walk plus 1 dog (Ruby!) There were no parking problems with spaces to spare as some members had taken the advice to car share or travel by bus.

The weather was cloudy but dry as we set off down Mill Lane, crossing the ford before  turning off on the path to Unthank. On reaching the road we turned again now heading for Meekfield Wood and then on up to Moorhall. We then continued to Grange Wood and Barlow Moor for our coffee stop. By this time it had brightened up with good views towards Chesterfield and beyond. We then carried on to Grange Lane, turning towards Barlow for a short section of road walking before turning off to Rumbling Street. Here we had hoped to see Wild Flowers at the farm but they were a little disappointing compared to previous years.

Then it was on to Johnnygate heading back towards Millthorpe, recrossing the ford and back up Mill Lane to the finish. Another enjoyable walk on little used footpaths on a perfect walking day!

Thanks to Steve and Ross for creating and leading the walk.
