Nineteen members of our group met up in the Dronfield Woodhouse Sports and Social Club car park on one of the warmest evenings of the year. The 7 pm start was a close run thing for some of us who had watched England Vs Denmark in the Miners Arms, but the least said about that the better.
We set off up Carr Lane and crossed over Holmesfield Road to take a track that runs alongside the farm. As (bad) luck would have it a large group of cattle were entering the nearby field from the farmyard through a gap in the fence. They were probably spooked by seeing such a large group of people and we were spooked by seeing such a large group of cattle but Vanessa and Joe held the gates open for us and we passed safely through. After passing through the fruit picking fields we joined the Dronfield Round Walk which took us into Holmesfield woods, where we had a short break, after which we continued to follow the path all the way to the main road by the Angel Inn.
Continuing to follow the Dronfield Round Walk, we passed through Cartledge and onto Cowley Lane. There were superb views during this section of the walk and we did our best to identify a few birds and wild flowers along the way. After crossing more fields we reached Tellytuby Land on the fringe of the Gosforth Valley estate. From here we walked through Sindelfingen park and made use of one of the many cut throughs in this area to arrive back at the car park.
This was a very enjoyable walk, done in perfect weather. Many thanks to Vanessa and David for leading us.
