Eighteen members of our group met up on a bright Thursday evening, ready for a walk starting at Coal Aston Community Centre.
We set off across the fields heading for Cross Lane. There are lots of Cross Lanes in this area, this is the one that starts halfway down Dyche Lane, running eastwards. After crossing a field we entered Nor Wood and then Long Wood leading to our first stile of the day at the top of the bank. We then followed a rutted field path all the way to Hazelbarrow farm. From here we followed the field boundary for around half a mile at which point we entered the third of our woods, Newfield Spring Wood. This was a fairly short stretch of woodland and soon we were back in the fields and heading for Dowey Lumb, our coffee stop.
Feeling suitably refreshed we followed part of the Dronfield Round Walk but rather than turning left by the bench at the top of the field, we turned right on a path leading us back into the woods, this one is called Owler Car Wood. Not content with a tally of four woods, we continued down the slope into our fifth wood, Cook Spring Wood. Feeling a little wooded out, we took one of the exits from the wood, into the field and once again followed the Dronfield Round walk all the way back to the community centre.
Many thanks to me for leading the walk 🙂
