I was unable to lead this walk so Graham kindly stepped in to take my place. Here’s what he had to say about the walk
With Pete Hubbard not able to lead his “Wood I Lie to You” walk, I stepped in as replacement leader and led a party of 21 members on a 4.75 mile figure of 8 walk around the Moss Valley. Starting out from Coal Aston Village Hall Car Park the route first went parallel with Dyche Lane over the fields to Jordanthorpe, crossing the Jordanthorpe Parkway twice and entered Coal Pit Wood. It was here that I pointed out where two streams merge together to become the source of the River Moss.
Carrying on we then entered Long Wood and walked it’s full length to our coffee stop at Dowey Lumb. After the refreshments we carried on into Bridle Road Wood and Newfield Spring Wood and up to Hazlebarrow Farm. After a short stop we turned left and back towards Coal Aston and as we entered Long Wood again we crossed our earlier route. We continued back over the River Moss and in to Nor Wood. I then avoided a really boggy field and went up to Winacre Farm where we retraced our steps back to the car park. There were some nice autumn colours in the five woods we passed through – and we managed to get back without any rain.
Thanks again to Graham for leading the walk. Check out Graham’s photos taken on the walk.
