Nine walkers met up at the Derwent Overlook car park for a walk that Paula had picked out. Unfortunately Paula was unable to come on the walk but she had provided us with details of the route which was straightforward to follow.
After passing through Fairholmes and crossing to the other side of the reservoir we headed north along the banks of Derwent Reservoir. The steep climb onto the moors was achieved via Walkers Clough. After a brief stop to get our breath back we continued on a good track across the moors at a lower level than the traditional route, although we could see some of the rock formations such as the Salt Cellar, on the horizon. Just before our decent we stopped for a coffee and admired the views down the valley. A fairly steep decent led us back to the path alongside the reservoir which we followed back to the crossing point, after which we re-traced our steps to the car park. Measured from Fairholmes the walk was 4.5 miles, so about 5 miles if you add on the short walk from the Overlook car park.
Thanks to Paula for choosing this walk.
