The Unstone Line and Peak Resort (25th May 2023)

Eighteen of us met at the start of Half Acre Lane for a 4.25 mile walk lead by Joe.

The first part of the walk took us along a permissive path known as the Unstone Line. The Unstone Line was a mineral line, used to carry coal from the Unstone mines and although nature has largely taken over you can still follow the line of the track. After passing the community centre we crossed over Crow Lane and worked our way to Ramshaw Woods. After noting the impressive railway bridge we soon arrived at our coffee stop, the playground in Unstone Green. Feeling duly refreshed we continued to follow a path running alongside the river Drone which took us to the main road and the entrance to the Peak Resort. We then started the steady but not insignificant climb towards Black Piece wood but turned right before reaching the wood. After stopping briefly to admire the views from Ouzle Bank we joined the Dronfield Barn Round walk which took us back to our staring point, diverting at the end to get a view of Unstone Manor house.

Many thanks to Joe for leading this walk and mentioning several points of historical interest along the way.
