Several of the party took advantage of the tea and toast at the Wesleyan chapel before the walk started which was particularly welcome on this cold, but dry, December morning.
Adrian had modified his planned route to avoid the worst of the mud which is notoriously bad in parts of the Moss valley. As a result the first part of the walk was on the surfaced track of Owler Car lane. Just before crossing the ford in the valley bottom we took the footpath up to Troway where we had our morning break. In my case a milky coffee and a twirl (other brands of confectionary are available)
The second half of the walk took us past the old “Inn at Troway” and along an enclosed path to bring us out near the Travellers’ Rest in Apperknowle. To complete the walk we followed the bottom road in Summerley, decending down “The Riddings” and emerging out onto Firthwood Road. From here, it was just a short walk back to the start.
Thanks Adrian for a great walk.
